Oro Blanco Grapefruit Smoothie

Love grapefruit? The sweet, juicy fruit is perfect for a snack, but have you ever tried making it into a smoothie? Hmm you might be needing to try this now!

Wondering how you add the grapefruit so you don’t get the white pith into the smooth, creamy smoothie? We have you covered in this recipe!

In order to remove the white membrane that surrounds the grapefruit called the pith, you’ll want to slice it off with a knife. This leaves you with the juiciest part of the fruit! You’ll then segment the grapefruit so you only get the sections of fruit without the fibrous membrane.

Blend the grapefruit up with strawberries and bananas for added sweetness. The addition of Greek yogurt adds creaminess and protein.

Oro Blanco Grapefruit Smoothie Recipe

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Servings: 1
  • Good for: kid-friendly, snacks, parties, gluten-free, vegan options
  • Difficulty: easy

Sweet, juicy oro blanco grapefruit blended with strawberries, bananas and Greek yougurt creates a delicious smoothie combo you’ll have to add into your smoothie rotation. To make vegan, swap the Greek yogurt for coconut or almond-based yogurt.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oro blanco grapefruit segmented
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 3 frozen whole strawberries
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ¼ cup almond milk

Equipment:

  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Blender
  • Measuring cups
  • Serving glass

Recipe Steps:

Prepare the grapefruit:

  1. In order to remove as much of the white pith as possible, use a knife to slice off the peel and the white pith. You’ll be left with the juicy fruit! Slice the ends first so the fruit lays flat on the cutting board and then cut around the sides of the fruit.
  2. Segment the grapefruit over the blender so any juice that falls makes it into the smoothie! Slice the grapefruit along the vertical segments at an angle to remove each section. Once you get all the fruit out, don’t forget to squeeze what’s left of the grapefruit into the blender to get all that sweet juice!

Blend the smoothie:

  1. On top of the grapefruit add the frozen banana, frozen strawberries, Greek yogurt and almond milk.
  2. Blend until smooth!
  3. If needed, add an extra splash of almond milk to get a thinner consistency.
  4. Top the smoothie with an extra grapefruit segment, granola, chia seeds or flaxseeds.

Serving Suggestions:

Change up your usual breakfast smoothie with this grapefruit edition. It’ll hit the spot with its burst of flavor!

Serve the smoothie in a glass with a straw and your favorite toppings like shredded coconut, granola, chia seeds or other nuts and seeds, or turn it into a smoothie bowl with layers of fruit like extra bananas, strawberries and grapefruit.
