Persimmon, Fried Sage, and Goat Cheese Bites

I am always looking for new things to put out when I have people over.  Yes, I love a good charcuterie plate, but every now and then you want something innovative! These persimmon bites are the perfect crowd-pleaser to make the crowd go, "What is that! I LOVE IT." 

These bites are full of creamy goat cheese, sweet persimmons coated in sage-infused olive oil and topped with crispy, fried sage. If you want to get extra fancy, drizzle a little balsamic glaze over top.

The savory deliciousness is out of this world good! From the sage-infused oil to the creamy, tangy goat cheese, each bite is full of flavor.

The sage leaves are fried to crispy perfection in oil, which is then used to coat the ripe persimmons. Not an ingredient goes to waste in this recipe!

Persimmon, Fried Sage, and Goat Cheese Bites Recipe

Baguettes topped with creamy goat cheese, crispy sage and sweet persimmon creates the perfect finger food to serve to guests.

Ingredients:

  • 20-25 sliced mini baguettes
  • 5 cups chopped ripe persimmons (about 2 large persimmons)
  • 5-ounce sage container (about 20-25 leaves)
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 4-ounce spreadable goat cheese
  • balsamic glaze (optional)

Equipment:

  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Measuring cups
  • Small pan
  • Tongs
  • Plate and paper towel
  • Serving platter

Recipe Steps:

Prepare the fried sage:

  1. Heat the oil in a small pan over medium heat
  2. Add the sage leaves and fry until the leaves turn dark green (about 30 seconds to 1 minute) and then transfer to a plate with a paper towel using tongs.
  3. Separate leaves into 3 batches.
  4. Once done, set the oil to the side to cool to room temperature and save for later use. 

Prepare the persimmons and baguettes:

  1. In a bowl, mix the chopped persimmons with the leftover infused sage olive oil from the frying pan.
  2. Spread goat cheese on the sliced baguettes.
  3. Top with chopped persimmons coated in the infused oil. 

Top the bites with the fried sage:

  1. Top the goat cheese bites with fried sage.
  2. If desired, top with balsamic glaze for extra flavor!

Serving Suggestions:

Prepare these fruit and cheese bites as an appetizer for a party or have as a snack. They make a great side dish to meals and make for an easy dish to bring to gatherings.

Serve on a plate and drizzle the balsamic glaze on top if desired for an extra layer of flavor.
