Raw Papaya Stir-Fry

I used to think of a stir-fry as something easy to put together when I didn't have much time or energy. I just grabbed everything from the fridge and tossed it into a frying pan and, voilà, dinner. But, wow, was I wrong.

Freshly sliced papaya and coconut form the base of this beautiful, tasty, and healthy stir-fry using tropical ingredients. This stir-fry recipe is something completely different that will completely transport you to another place. 

We brought papaya, bell peppers, coconut and onions together in a ginger soy-sesame sauce. This meal will have your house smelling amazing! Awaken your senses and your tastebuds with this delicious recipe.

Raw Papaya Stir-Fry Recipe

Papaya, coconut, bell peppers and onions stir-fried in garlic and ginger and seasoned with a sesame-soy sauce makes for a tropical lunch or dinner. Top with sesame seeds for extra crunch!

Ingredients:

For the papaya stir-fry

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 green bell pepper sliced into ½ inch thick slices
  • ¾ cup shredded carrots
  • ⅔ cup thinly sliced onion
  • 1 papaya sliced into ½ inch thick slices (3 cups total)
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • Sesame seeds to garnish

For the soy-sesame sauce 

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seed oil
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 2 cloves minced garlic

Equipment:

  • Large skillet
  • Stove
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Grater
  • Bowl for the soy-sesame sauce

Recipe Steps:

Prepare the soy-sesame sauce:

  1. Whisk together the soy sauce, sesame seed oil, lime juice, ginger and garlic.
  2. Set aside until later use.

Prepare the stir-fry:

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil and mix in the bell pepper, carrots and onion. Sauté for 5 minutes or until tender.
  2. Add the papaya, coconut, ginger and garlic. Stir for another 3 minutes.
  3. Add in the soy-sesame sauce and mix well.
  4. Serve while warm. 

Serving Suggestions:

Enjoy this tropical stir-fry for lunch or dinner. Make it a complete meal by pairing it with a tofu dish and rice on the side to soak up all the juicy flavors. Top with sesame seeds for garnish and an extra nutty crunch.
