Star Fruit Chips

Along with being incredibly delicious, one of the best things about star fruit is its star shape. It is a perfect addition to any salad, charcuterie plate, or to garnish a beverage.

These easy-to-make star fruit chips are a tasty way to take full advantage of the star fruit's shape. They make a wonderful and attractive addition to any cheese plate, or you can just have them around as a fun and tasty snack.

We sprinkled a little cinnamon and sugar on top, but you can also omit it if you prefer just enjoying the chips as is for the full star fruit flavor.

You don’t need a dehydrator to get these chips, just an oven will do. Bake these chips for a long time in low heat for a sweet, crunchy snack!

  • Difficulty: easy

Crisp star fruit chips sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon are the perfect addition to your snack board, salad or appetizer spread.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup star fruit thinly sliced (1 to 2 star fruit)
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Equipment:

  • Oven
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

Recipe Steps:

Slice the star fruit:

  1. Slice the star fruit into ⅛ inch slices. If you have a mandoline, this is a great opportunity to use it! Otherwise, a sharp kitchen knife will do.

Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar:

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the star fruit slices on the sheet with space so they’re not touching.
  2. Mix the cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkle over over the star fruit.

Bake the star fruit:

  1. Preheat the oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Bake for 1-hour 30mins or until they’re golden brown on the edges.
  3. Flip the star fruit every 30 minutes. Thinner slices will bake more quickly than thicker cut ones, so remove the smaller, thinner ones once they become golden brown as you check them every 30 minutes.

Serving Suggestions:

Enjoy these crispy and delicious chips as an alternative to traditional potato chips. Everyone fell in love with kale chips, but star fruit chips may give them a run for their money!

Add them to your next cheese or appetizer board for a bright and colorful addition or top your next salad with the baked star fruit for crunchy goodness.
