Rick and Alejandro’s farm is small, but their community is big! Their market supports family-run farms all throughout the Central Valley, and they are committed to supporting their local community with fresh, healthy foods. Dedicated to sustainable farming practices, they operate their own farm in a closed-loop system. Supporting Rick’s farm and market, means supporting the greater small farm community. Make your tropical experience personal!

Persimmons should be eaten when ripe! They can definitely make your mouth pucker if they’re not a delightful autumn orange-red. A ripe persimmon will still be firm and crisp, but the flavor will be sweet. When you’re ready to eat your persimmons, cut off the leafy stem, slice lengthwise, and spoon out the tender flesh right into your mouth! The great thing about persimmons is that you can also eat them when overripe. Try slicing your persimmon like a tomato, into wedges, to add to salads. Some people do not enjoy the skin, and choose to blanch (immerse in hot waters, remove with tongs, then peel) or peel it off carefully.

The Story Behind Fuyu Persimmons

The Fuyu Persimmon is a delicious autumn harvest fruit that will rival any slice of holiday pie —even pumpkin! Named by the Greek gods as the “divine fruit.” Their layered flavor is reminiscent of pears, dates, brown sugar and cinnamon. They have a succulent texture that turns slightly gelatinous when ripe. Due to their tender flesh they can be hard to find at ideal ripeness at your grocery store, but Rick picks his persimmons at just the right moment to be sent directly to your door! If you’re already a persimmon lover, bon appétit! If you have yet to try them you are in for a fall treat!
