Longan are ready to eat when they are firm and free from bruises and blemishes. A ripe longan will have a strong tan color.
- Crack the shell with a knife or your fingers.
- Discard the shell.
- Remove and discard the black seed (do not eat)
- Enjoy the succulent semi-transparent flesh
Uneaten longan (if there are any leftover) can be safely stored in the refrigerator for 5-7 days. Store the longan in a plastic bag (try to remove the air as much as possible) in the refrigerator. If they turn slightly browner, that’s ok. As long as they aren’t bruised or too soft they should still be good to eat.
- Sweet and mildly tart with musky undertones reminiscent of lychee

In the Middle
Okay, so I love love longan, but cannot give this a 5 star. Unfortunately there was an exceptionally high level of waste from this experience. I'm not sure if they were picked too ripe, or it's just too much middle of the summer extra hot transit weather. Either way we only got to enjoy a fraction of these gems (the ones that were in good condition were fantastic and flavorful), so it was painful having to toss any! I reached out to Jenny who made everything right - this company does stand behind their products. I'd totally consider giving this another shot in the future.
