Important Information About
Your Sapodilla will be shipped unripe and may begin to ripen during transit. To tell if your Sapodilla are ripe and ready to eat, look to see if they are brown and soft to the touch when you apply gentle pressure with your thumb. These fruit have a short ripening window and will emit a sweet fragrance when ripe. When they are as soft as a ripe avocado it’s time to eat them. The skin may get darker as it ripens and will become patchy in color. This is a normal part of the ripening process. They will perish quickly and should be consumed immediately after ripening.
Sapodilla is best enjoyed ripe and fresh out of hand by spooning out the flesh. Cut the fruit in half lengthwise and scoop out the caramelized and grainy flesh. Voila! Sapodilla will taste like a combination of malty-caramel, pear, brown sugar, and cinnamon. You can also enjoy their unique flavor in smoothies, salads, jams, or dessert.

By far the most exotic and best tasting fruit I have had from fruit stand. I am in Massachusetts and this is not around up here. I am okay paying the extra money to support a small farm in Florida. IT ACTUALLY TASTES LIKE CREME BRÛLÉE/BROWN SUGAR!!!! I ate most raw and mixed the rest into vanilla soft serve. I also let about 4 people try them. This is not something to horde. This is a fruit to share so more people know about it!!!
WOW! Brett - this is such incredible feedback. We're thrilled that you and your friends enjoyed the creme brulee/brown sugar taste of sapodilla from Serendib Farms! Mixed into vanilla soft serve is a genius idea, too. Thank you for sharing your delicious experience with us! ~Jenny
This was the first time I’ve tried this fruit and I was pleasantly surprised. It definitely has a caramel favor. Kind of like a slightly grainy caramel, but caramel nonetheless. There were plenty of them in the box so I’ve shared with my grandkids. Also pleasantly surprised that they have not all ripened at the same time! Now I’m looking forward to the Star Apple!
Hi Penny! How FUN to try sapodilla for the first time...and sharing with your grandkids! We really appreciate your awesome feedback :) ~Jenny
We actually ordered this twice. The second box looks like a different variety (probably why it was picked a little later). Only one has ripened enough to eat so far, but it was as delicious as all the other ones were. This was the 3rd order we’ve received (and one more coming in a week or 2) and I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the fruit, and the service in general.
My order originally shipped out when the snow storms across the country were causing severe delay with shipping companies. Unfortunately, my order took 2 week to reach me and was a puddle of sticky goo. Fruit Stand was very quick to issue me a gift card. When more sapodilla came available, I quickly ordered. This order arrived quickly and in great condition. It took a couple days before the fruit began to ripen enough to eat, but once it did, it was amazingly delicious.
Hey Josh! Thank you for your incredibly kind words! We're happy that we were able to work with you despite the snow storms causing the delays and gooey fruit. And YAY! Glad you enjoyed the sapodilla :) ~Jenny
The fruit came looking perfect and then ripen beautifully!! Yum!!
This was my second time buying sapodilla, and once again, I received so many gorgeous pieces of fruit! Each one was in perfect condition, and the shipping was fast. I got an email immediately upon delivery that my order had arrived, so I was able to grab it from my porch quickly. Thank you, Fruit Stand!
Double the sapodilla = double the YUM! Thanks for sharing your incredible feedback with us, Mercedes!
