Important Information About
Star Apple
The star apple box you receive will contain either the purple or green varieties or a mix of both. The purple variety will arrive with part of the skin already purple and more of the skin will turn purple as they ripen. The green variety will not have any purple coloring and the green color will turn dull green as they ripen. To fully ripen as needed, allow your fruit to sit at room temperature and once they are soft to the touch, consume or place in the refrigerator and eat within 2 days. The Star Apple should never be bitten into as the skin contains a latex that is astringent.
We recommend eating your Star Apple fresh out of hand with a spoon. Cut the fruit in half and scoop out the creamy and jelly-like pulp around the starburst core. Remove, and do not eat the seeds or the skin. The pulp will be sweet and juicy with flavors reminiscent of apple, lychee and persimmon.
DO NOT EAT THE RIND OR SKIN as it contains an astringent LATEX sap. Only eat the interior fruit flesh and do not consume the seeds.
Star Apple is wonderful on its own. It is also great with yogurt, in fruit salads and in desserts.

If your star apple requires additional ripening upon arrival, store on the counter at room temperature until it reaches peak ripeness (The purple variety will arrive with part of the skin already purple and more of the skin will turn purple as they ripen. The green variety will not have any purple coloring and the green color will turn dull green as they ripen). After ripening, if not ready to eat, store in the fridge for 1-2 days. Star Apple perishes quickly, so be sure to freeze if you don’t think you’ll be able to eat it before spoiling. To freeze, remove seeds and scoop out flesh of ripe Star Apple into a freezer-safe bag or into ice cube trays to keep for up to 6 months.

About The Harvest
Wimal and his wife, Elita, are about to pick their winter harvest of Star Apple. This hard-to-find fruit will ship within 24 hours of being picked. Star Apple is so delicate (and sticky) that it would never make it to your grocery store shelves, which is what makes it so rare to find in the U.S.
Star Apple gets its name from the starburst core pattern when it is cut in half. The pulp of the fruit is aromatic with a sweet tropical flavor that’s reminiscent of apple, lychee and persimmon. They are shiny and deep purple or green. In this experience you will receive either purple or green Star Apples, or both depending on the harvest. The purple variety will arrive with part of the skin already purple and more of the skin will turn purple as they ripen. The green variety will not have any purple coloring and the green color will turn dull green as they ripen. DO NOT EAT THE RIND OR SKIN as it contains an astringent LATEX sap. Only eat the interior fruit flesh and do not consume the seeds.
Unfortunately this experience CANNOT ship to California. All produce is shipped direct from Serendib Farms using FedEx two-day shipping to guarantee freshness. Information on how to use, store and recipe ideas can be found by clicking here.

Creamy and light
The fruit was creamy and soft. We received the purple skinned type and arrived ripe so we got to try it right away. Slice along the equator and twist open like an avocado! Along with the white center, we scraped a little bit of the softer purple bits while eating. I don’t recommend scraping too much as you get more of the latex and less sweetness. This was my first time trying the fruit and it was neat.
